Modular homes: is this the real future of housing in Australia?

The idea of modular homes or the older term of prefabricated housing in not new to Australia. The technology behind the workflow of parts of houses constructed onsite in a factory and assembled on site to save significant money and shrink completion times is well established.

Some estimates put the total value of all prefabricated buildings in Australia at no more than 5% of the booming $150 billion construction industry. What are real impediments to this promising technology and can it satisfy an increasingly more demanding consumer base?

Waco Tao, a supply chain management expert and industry stalwart in the area of modular construction was interviewed by the Asian Executive, to understand the benefits of this promising technology.
